When searching for a night light to add to your home, you’ll come across hundreds, if not thousands, of options to choose from. From regular plastic night lights to Fused Glass Night Lights, projection night lights, and more. It can seem a bit overwhelming to just find something that adds a bit of light to your living space. That’s why we’ve put together a short guide to help you choose the best night light for your home.
1. What is the purpose of the night light?
When shopping for a night light, you want to ask yourself why you need the night light in the first place. What drew you to start searching for a night light? Maybe you need a night light in the kitchen for your nightly wake up call for a glass of water. Or perhaps you need a night light in your hallway to offer some light when walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night or down the steps to check on the dog. You may also be searching for a night light to add some light to the dark spaces of your home where the light just does not reach. Or, the most common reason, maybe you’re searching for a night light for your child’s bedroom. Many children need just a bit of light to help ease their worries and fall asleep at night. A night light can do just that.
2. How much light do you need?
The next question to think about is how much light is needed. If you’re using it to light the way in the hall, you’ll want enough light to help guide you down the hall but not too much light to make it too bright. The same thing for a child’s bedroom. You’ll want enough light to keep them calm and worry-free at bedtime, but not too much light to disturb their sleep and keep them awake. Another thing to keep in mind is how you want the light to work. Do you want a motion sensor type of night light that can sense someone walking past, one that automatically turns on once an area gets too dark, or one with a switch that needs to be turned on and off whenever it is being used?
3. What kind of night light design are you looking for?
The third thing to keep in mind is the design you are looking for. The answer to this should also factor in the purpose of the night light and how much light is needed. You’ll also want to think about your home decor and decide whether or not you’d like something to match that and blend in or something that stands out. If you’re searching for a night light for your own personal use, either in your own bedroom, bathroom, hallway, kitchen, or some other room in your home, you’ll want something that appeals to you. A night light for a child’s bedroom, on the other hand, should be something more fun and playful.
